Manchester United have failed in a bid to sign Tottenham striker Dane Scarlett, after he opted to sign a new contract to stay at the club.

The teenager became Spurs’ youngest debutant in the 2020/21 campaign when he made an apperance at the age of 16 years and 247 days.

Scarlett had come to the attention of United due to his contract situation, with the striker’s current deal set to expire at the end of the season.

The MEN claim that Matt Judge – United’s outgoing director of football negotiations – made a move for Scarlett last month when he made an enquiry to the striker’s representatives.

However, he was informed that Scarlett had informally agreed a contract extension with the club.

Erik ten Hag wants to sign at least one forward this summer, with the Dutchman intent on keeping Cristiano Ronaldo at the club.

Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Edinson Cavani are all set to leave and Ten Hag wants a flexible forward that can play in a number of positions.

Antony, the Ajax winger, is another target for the club but the Dutch giants will fight tooth and nail to keep the Brazilian as they fear an exodus after Ten Hag’s departure.
