Phillip Schofield has torn into Boris Johnson while reacting to the latest revelations to emerge in Wednesday’s damning Sue Gray report.

Phillip and co-star Holly Willoughby returned for Thursday’s episode and kicked things off by discussing the biggest news stories of the day.

They were joined by commentators Bev Turner and Tom Swarbrick to dissect the headlines, including the latest on the so-called party gate saga

On Wednesday, the Sue Gray report was finally released, after newly released pictures show the prime minister and Chancellor Rishi Sunak gathered with other staff on Mr Johnson’s birthday, which both politicians got fined for.

Uncovered emails also showed top official Martin Reynolds boasting that staff had ‘got away with drinks’, while multiple examples of ‘unacceptable’ treatment of security and cleaning staff were found.

Of course, the latest revelations were picked apart on This Morning, with Phillip using the opportunity to mock Boris’ ‘rubbish parties.’

They started off by addressing the ongoing cost of living crisis, as energy bills are set to rocket later this year.

Tom said: ‘The government still is slightly all over the place about how to pay for it, how to target it, and that is going to affect them politically because a lot of Tory MPs are very, very worried about this.’

Phillip hit back: ‘Well, concentrating too much on their rubbish parties! That’s the problem, isn’t it?’

Holly jumped in: ‘Shall we talk about this “Partygate” thing? We’ve done it every day for the last five years, so we might as well do it now!’

She went on to say the latest bombshells ‘paint a bleak picture’ of the UK Government after reading out details of the lockdown-busting parties which took place in Downing Street.

Phillip cheekily quipped of the Prime Minister: ‘You wonder whether he caught Covid whilst he was eating a rubbish sandwich and drinking orange juice!’

Tom went on to warn: ‘For most people, they’re done with party gate, but it doesn’t mean it’s going to be the end for difficulties for Boris Johnson .’

Elsewhere, Good Morning Britain was left with an empty chair at Westminster this morning, when a senior Tory minister was reportedly ‘too busy’ to chat to Kate Garraway and Richard Madeley.

Cabinet Office minister Stephen Barclay was given the unfortunate task of doing today’s media rounds on behalf of the Government.

The PM’s chief of staff was due to appear on GMB at 8.30am – the ITV show’s normal time for ministers.

However, he decided to be a no-show on the broadcaster’s breakfast show, despite having appeared on other broadcasters.

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
