The Ellen Show is coming to an end today after 19 seasons, and no one is sadder to see it go than Rosie McClelland, who appeared on the show numerous times alongside her cousin Sophia Grace Brownlee.

Sophia Grace and Rosie made their debut appearance on The Ellen Show in 2011 when they performed their rendition of Nicki Minaj’s Super Bass at the tender age of five. And, little did they know they’d soon be calling Ellen, ‘auntie’.

After impressing the host, and the world, with their star power, the cousins returned to the show over 30 times and were even given their own segment, Tea Time with Sophia Grace and Rosie, which saw them interview celebrities.

‘It was a long time ago, but I do remember because it was such a big moment,’ Rosie exclusively told Metro.co.uk, recalling her very first time on The Ellen Show. ‘I remember being behind the stage and being really nervous with Sophia, but then when I got down onto stage it was really exciting. We just ran around everywhere.

‘Some point after the show, Ellen came into our dressing room and said hi to us. At the time, I didn’t really think much of it but now I look back and I’m like oh my goodness, I was on the Ellen Show!’

Sophia Grace and Rosie became an instant hit after their Ellen Show debut and it was no surprise they were quickly snapped up as regular contributors.

‘Ellen sent us on a shopping spree with Nicki Minaj to Toys ‘R’ Us,’ Rosie remembered. ‘For me, that was amazing. Then she sent us to the Kids’ Choice Awards red carpet, The Grammys, everything. It was such a big thing for me. ‘Not many 15-year-olds can say “I’ve been on a red carpet, I’ve been to the Grammys.” It’s so surreal.’

Ellen acted as a role model for Rosie and Sophia Grace throughout their childhood, with the trio growing so close that they actually called the beloved television presenter ‘auntie Ellen’.

‘At the time, we called her auntie Ellen, that’s how close we were,’ she said with a grin. ‘I had such a great relationship with her, and she said that she wanted to adopt me.’

‘It’s not happening!’ Rosie’s mum chimed in. ‘She can have her for a week!’

Rosie explained how Ellen would give her and her cousin pearls of wisdom which would help them deal with their newfound fame. ‘The main piece of advice I remember is “be yourself and have fun”. That’s what she always used to say to us, and me and Sophia have taken that on. Whatever I do, I’m just myself and I’m having fun with it.’

In 2020, Ellen apologised to staff after an internal review by Warner Bros found ‘deficiencies related to the show’s day-to-day management’.

The review was launched after reports of a toxic environment on the programme, but Rosie maintains she never experienced anything of that nature.

‘They always put us first before themselves,’ she said of the crew. ‘We would run around the studio multiple times looking for people’s dressing rooms and they would never tell us off. We probably had the best experience ever!’

Naturally, Rosie is sad The Ellen Show is ending. ‘The show is connected to my heart, and it will be forever, even if it’s not on anymore,’ she said. ‘I am quite sad, but Ellen is such a busy person, she was literally doing this every single day, so she does deserve a break.

‘Hopefully, I’ll be able to go out with her for pizza and stuff like that. I’ll be forever grateful for what she did for us; red carpets, shopping sprees, everything. She got me here and made me who I am.’

Rosie is now a singer and has seven singles under her belt. ‘Ellen has got me to this point,’ she admitted. Her latest track is called Safe In Your Love and she recently released the music video to go with it. ‘I’m really proud of it and it’s my favourite song I’ve recorded so far.’

As for plans to collaborate with Nicki Minaj. ‘I would love to. She does follow me and she does like all of my photos, so you never know.’
