A former EastEnders favourite is set to star in George Clooney’s new movie The Boys in the Boat, which has commenced production.

Oceans Eleven and Gravity star George will direct the the upcoming motion picture, which is an adaptation of Daniel James Brown’s 2013 novel of the same name.

The Boys in the Boat will tell the story of the University of Washington men’s rowing team, who shocked the world by winning gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.

George, 61, was pictured on the shores of the River Thames, as production got on the project got under way.

The set has been put together at the Molesey Boat Club, and a number of cast members were seen in rowing attire.

The Boys in the Boat, which is Batman and Robin star George’s ninth film as a director, will feature a host of big names including Joel Edgerton and Callum Turner.

EastEnders star Sam Strike is also attached to the project.

Sam, 28, portrayed Johnny Carter on the BBC One soap between 2013 and 2014.

He made his on-screen debut on Boxing Day, rocking up in the Square with his fictional mum and dad Mick and Linda, as they took over The Vic in scenes which marked a new era for the popular soap.

Johnny featured in many memorable moments during that year, from his highly-acclaimed coming out scene, to his brief relationship with Gianluca Cavallo (Gabriele Lombardo).

Sam left the role in late 2014, with Johnny departing Walford on a motorbike on Christmas Eve.

His final appearance came on Christmas Day, however, almost a year to the day since his debut, when he video-called the Carter clan.

Sam has achieved huge success since departing the Square, appearing in Netflix’s Mindhunter, George R.R. Martin’s Nightflyers, and an episode of NBC’s Timeless. 

He also starred in Leatherface, a 2017 prequel to The Texas Chainshaw Massacre.

The 28-year-old recently reunited with his EastEnders family, sharing a picture of himself celebrating with Danny Dyer and Kellie Bright, who played his parents on the show.
