Damian Lewis is reportedly set to be honoured with a CBE.

The Homeland actor will receive the honour for his charity work. He is an ambassador for various charities, including The Prince’s Trust.

He and his late wife, Peaky Blinders star Helen McCrory, also raised an incredible £1.5million to feed NHS staff during the Covid-19 lockdowns last year.

‘This is richly deserved for all the work Damian has done for so many people with so much done with little or no public fanfare,’ a friend told The Sun of the honour.

Damian, 51, was previously awarded an OBE by Prince William in 2014, joking at the time: ‘It was a bit like being asked to be a prefect, now I have to be extremely responsible.’

It was revealed after McCrory’s death in April 2021 that she and Damian had raised a huge amount of money for NHS staff.

Just six weeks before her death, Damian recorded an appearance on the Out To Lunch podcast, where he opened up about their incredible charity work.

In the chat, he and host Jay Rayner touched on the money the couple raised to help feed and provide meals for NHS workers on the frontline of the coronavirus pandemic.

‘We raised over £1.5million and by the end of it were feeding 40,000 meals a day to 100 different hospitals across the UK,’ Damian proudly said.

‘It had started just with a conversation with a pal here and he said, “Look, we’re good at looking after patients but we’re crap at looking after our own staff, can you think of any way we can feed them?” I knew one of the founders of Leon and I know that Leon is popular with people.

‘Helen and myself became friendly with [Leon CEO] John Vincent and he happened to be doing something down in Brighton at the time, and thinking about how to do the same thing.

‘So we all just came together. He’s great friends with Matt Lucas, so us four sort of clubbed together to try to raise money. That’s what we did and we’re very proud actually. It was hard work.’

He added: ‘I am very, very glad we did it but I am full of admiration for people who give their time working in the charity sector.’
