Emmerdale fans have been reminiscing about Shadrach Dingle, after the news broke that star Andy Devine has died at age of 79.

The actor, who played Shadrach between 2000 and 2010, died on January 27 of this year, according to public records.

Shadrach proved popular with fans of the show during his ten-year stint in the village, and his final appearance came in 2010, when the character was killed off.

Andy left Emmerdale that year, as he felt unable to keep up with the show’s busy schedule. He continued to make sporadic appearances for key storylines, but the character was later killed off.

The emotional outing aired on July 23, 2010.

Shadrach, who at this stage had been diagnosed with liver disease, moved in with Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock), who assisted him in seeing that he had good things in life.

On his birthday, Shadrach started to drink again.

Marlon, devastated, subsequently kicked him out.

Shadrach left the premises with a number of beer cans in his hand, and he headed towards the village’s bridge, where he seemingly intended to drink them.

The stalwart, however, suffered a sharp pain, which led to him dropping the cans in the river. He headed towards the river to retrieve the cans, but he ultimately suffered another sharp pain, and collapsed and died.
