Tragedy strikes in EastEnders next week, as Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) and Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks) are involved in a devastating car crash.

The love rivals, as viewers know, have been at each other’s throats in recent weeks, after Janine schemed her way into Mick’s (Danny Dyer) life.

Things escalate this week, however, as Linda figures out that Janine was to blame for Nancy (Maddy Hill) and Zack Hudson’s (James Farrar) investment money vanishing.

Janine used the money to pay off Linda, hoping that she would leave the Square. Linda, however, turned the tables, taking the cash, but refusing to bow to Janine’s demands, she stayed where she belongs.

Upcoming scenes will see the landlady invest her new cash in the salon, but she’s left reeling when she realises the true extent of Janine’s manipulation – and that Nancy has lost out as a result.

Armed with this new information, she decides to tell Nancy the truth next week, as she plans a trip with her daughter to Watford.

Nancy, however, is distracted, after Zack accidentally lets slip that Linda was planning on leaving the Square several weeks ago. Unable to let this lie, she questions her mum while they’re out on the road.

Linda does her best to explain, but Nancy doesn’t give her the chance to fully do so, as she storms off, abandoning her mum and baby Annie at the side of the road.

Feeling hurt and alone, Linda turns to drink.

Janine, meanwhile, is on tenterhooks, fearing that Linda has told Nancy the truth.

Nancy returns to the Vic in a foul mood, leaving the schemer certain that the game is up, but upon realising that Linda is the cause of Nancy’s upset, she’s left relieved.

Her attention, however, is soon elsewhere, as she intercepts a call Linda tries to make to Mick (Danny Dyer).

Determined to keep the once-happy couple apart, Janine sets off to retrieve Linda and Annie.

Linda, as you can imagine, is not best pleased when she sets her sights on Janine, and some harsh words are exchanged amid the showdown.

But Janine manages to get the car started, and thus she sets off home with Linda and Annie in tow.

Tragedy strikes, however, as Janine loses control of the car, and a devastating car crash ensues.

Janine comes to shortly afterwards, but Linda is unconscious and in a bad way. Realising the severity of Linda’s injuries, Janine shows her true colours once more.

Back at the Vic, Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) realises that Mick and Nancy have no clue about Janine’s scheming, and she contemplates whether or not she should tell them.

Things, however, take quite the turn, as Shirley Carter (Linda Henry) receives a call from the hospital, informing her of what’s happened to Linda. Devastated, Shirley relays the news to Mick and Nancy, and the trio head to the hospital where they receive crushing news.

Linda is in a critical condition, and she might die.

Will Linda pull through? Or is this really the end for the Queen Vic landlady?
