This is the shocking moment an elderly woman was mowed down in a hit-and-run as she crossed a road with her shopping trolley.

Detectives have released the disturbing video to try and track down the white van driver who left the pensioner lying in the road in Lichfield, Staffordshire.

The woman, aged in her 80s, was rushed to hospital and treated for a serious injury to her ankle.

Anyone who recognises or saw the van on Castle Dyke at around 10.30am on February 25 is urged to contact police.

A spokesperson said: ‘Officers have released this shocking footage as part of an appeal for information after an elderly woman was involved in a non-stop road traffic collision in Lichfield.

‘It shows the moment the woman, in her eighties, was hit by a white van near to Lichfield Garrick Theatre on Castle Dyke.

‘The collision took place at around 10.30am on Friday 25 February. The vehicle did not stop.

‘The woman was taken to hospital with a serious ankle injury.’
