As the Queen celebrates 70 years on the throne, she’s received a sweet message from another queen, Dame Mary Berry.

The former Great British Bake Off judge appeared on the BBC’s Platinum Jubilee coverage to share her well-wishes for the monarch.

‘Congratulations, your Majesty, on your Platinum Jubilee,’ Dame Mary began.

‘You’re an amazing example of strong and stoic leadership. Thank you for all you’ve done for country and the Commonwealth and I hope you enjoy that Platinum Pudding!’

The official Platinum Pudding was crowned last week after beating around 5,000 puddings to the title.

Southport-born Jemma Melvin won the competition, judged by Dame Mary and Monica Galetti, with her lemon Swiss roll and amaretti trifle.

Dame Mary, 87, has met the Queen various times and once went to the Palace for dinner, previously saying meeting the monarch was the greatest moment of her career.

‘What a pleasure it was to see her,’ she said during a 2017 appearance at Cambridge University’s Student Union.

‘Her shoes were oh so comfortable. They looked like they had been padded forever. What a wise lady! I sat next to the Duke [of Edinburgh]. He said he loved to barbecue and needed some advice on stuffing small birds.’

The BBC’s coverage of the Jubilee is being hosted by Kirsty Young, who has returned for the first time after she was forced to step back from presenting due to illness.

Fans were delighted to see Kirsty back in action with many praising the star as she returned to interview stars including David Dimbleby, Dame Maureen Lipman and Dame Darcey Bussell.

The celebrations for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee over the next few days, including the Platinum Party, which will see the likes of Queen and Diana Ross take to the stage.
