Back in January, Coronation Street star Ian Bartholomew auditioned for this year’s series of Britain’s Got Talent.
The actor, who played abuser Geoff Metcalfe in the ITV soap, performed his own original song called ‘This Time It’s Forever’, which was released during the first lockdown, when domestic violence cases were ‘going through the roof’.
According to The Sun, the soap star said: ‘I am from Cheshire. I was in Coronation Street. I played nasty Geoff Metcalfe. He was a nasty piece of work. I started in 2018 and I fell off a roof in the show last year.’
‘The song just came out and I approached Women’s Aid and that is why I am standing here now as this programme has the most amazing reach.’
Simon Cowell reportedly praised Iain for taking a character like Geoff, who was involved in a dark soap storyline, and trying to make something positive for the charity.
With the grand final of BGT airing this Sunday, this week has seen Ant and Dec host the live semi-finals of the talent competition, which means Ian’s audition never aired on screen.
‘I’m sure I read somewhere that actor Ian Bartholomew took part in BGT this year, but I don’t recall seeing his audition. Did I miss it?’, one Twitter user wondered.
A Corrie fan responded to that tweet and said: ‘I wondered that too, I’ve been waiting for his audition all series!’.
‘Came on here to check if it was on tonight’s episode as I haven’t watched it yet but clearly not!’, another fan questioned.
Metro.co.uk has contacted Britain’s Got Talent for a comment on the matter.
Ian played the role of Geoff from 2018-2020.
After abusing and coercively controlling wife Yasmeen (Shelley King), Geoff died after falling from a roof during the soap’s week of celebrations to mark the 60th anniversary.
